Data / Results

The data and results below quantify my impact as a teacher, coach, and leader.

2016 End of Year Assessment Results - 8th grade math

2016 End of Year Assessment Results - 8th grade math

Coaching Impact

The graphics above show the growth in student achievement of Ms. James, an ELA teacher that I currently coach. Ms. James was supported by another coach in the previous school year.

When compared to her performance last year, Ms. James has increased proficiency in almost every area of practice. That increased proficiency is translating into major gains with her students and they are expected to make significant growth on end of year assessments.

Ms. James was named spotlight teacher in the KIPP New Orleans Network this year.

Currently, Ms. James is the highest performing ELA teacher in our network.

Leadership Impact

The graphic above is from a blind staff survey given at multiple points during each school year.

As the Assistant Principal of Instruction, professional development I was hired this year to overhaul our coaching and development structures, including teacher and leader facing professional development.

In only five months, every single professional development metric for our school shows a significant increase. This places our school’s performance markedly higher than our network average, and the quality of our school-based professional development opportunities in the top quartile among all KIPP schools nationwide.

Testimonials

Sophia Roy is a gifted, phenomenal teacher. Teaching is impossibly complicated, with an endless number of skills to master. And yet, somehow, Sophia seems to excel at every facet: planning execution, soft skills, etc. She is one of the true great ones.
— Alex Jarrell, Chief Innovation Officer New Schools for New Orleans
Sophia has a unique ability to build a new normal for what is possible in a classroom. Her students will remember her forever, and her impact expands well beyond her classroom. There have been countless teachers and leaders who have left an observation in her room with a new picture for what math can look like.
— Todd Purvis, Chief Academic Officer, KIPP New Orleans Schools
There are so many people who talk about pushing kids toward their potential, but Ms. Roy lives it. She has the most grit I have ever seen. Her will to teach kids to reach new heights is inspiring, and I have learned so much from her when it comes to making sure EVERY kids succeeds. She goes above and beyond every day, and I could not have asked for a better teacher for my son.
— Christy Swauncy, Dean of Culture KIPP Central City Academy and parent of former student
Ms. Roy is the most inspiring teacher that I have had the pleasure of working with. Some teachers spike in their love for and relationships with students, while others spike in intellectual prep and instructional precision. What makes Ms. Roy so special is that she spikes in both. This combination makes her a genius teacher. Students know that she will stop at nothing to make sure they receive a top-quality education. I deeply respect her wisdom, work ethic, and passion that she has for this important career. I am so grateful to have learned from and been inspired by her leadership.
— Lauren Hammond, School Leader KIPP Central City Academy
